Pigs, Swine and Hogs

My lovely wife just informed me the other day that I'm getting a pig for my birthday! You may find that less than appealing although I'm quite thrilled! To add to my joy my son and I have decided to use hogs as a learning lesson in animal husbandry, agriculture, markets and finance. He's going to put up some of his own money and with any luck we'll get two gilts (that's young female hogs to those of you in the city). We're hoping to breed them in the fall for piglets early spring (or late winter). I'm sure we'll have fun - and we'll keep you posted too!
