One of the main projects over the weekend was building the chicken run. The chicks are old enough to get outside and we needed to build the run. Here is a good picture showing how the bottom of the fence needs to be buried in order to keep out critters like racoons and fox. Critters will dig down at the edge of the fence and run into the buried wire and give up; they're not smart enough to go back a foot and try from there. We've used this type of fence around our existing adult duck pen with great success. Digging the trench and burying the chicken wire is not the best part of the job, but it ensures that critters won't be eating our chicks nor their eggs (down the road) for dinner!
